I am reminded that I should let everyone know if they don't already that Blythecon 2011 is going to occur in Portland Oregon on Monday, June 20, 2011! I can guarantee that you will have a fantastic time. Also I just saw and read some incredible information on Blythelife about Smidgegirl Check out the @blythelifecom interview with @smidgegirl and the awesome giveaway! http://bit.ly/fnGvpw Smidgegirl makes some awesome 1/6 scale furniture much in the style of the 70's
Unfortunately, I also read an article on Blythecon about fake blythes, I am reserving judgement as to whether the blythes are really fake or if they are just poor quality or not enough quality control by takara. There is a group now at flickr called Fake Takara Blythe Galore: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1648247@N22/ I leave it up to you to decide if you think the girls shown are fakes or if they are just the result as I stated earlier of poor quality control.

Moo Card Swap

Just another little teaser before and for Blythe Con 2011 and a reminder of where and when.

Original Work - Integrity in the Doll Community

Lately it has come to my attention that there are people who are copying other peoples creative work and styles in the blythe community making almost exact copies. For instance there is a person who is making and selling hats for blythe that look like exact copies of the felted helmets/hats made by Eurotrash right down to the embroidery and bead work done by Ruth. I have also seen skirts with corsets & blouses in a style that is very similar to Squeakymonkey. They are so similar to Tiffany's outfits that unless you knew better you would think it was Tiffany's work! Now I would not find it offensive if the individuals were just making these items for themselves, but the people copying these very recognizable styles are actually selling these items to others in the blythe doll community on etsy and perhaps elsewhere. So there is now a movement to post a graphic stating "buy original" You will see it posted on various blogs, flickr streams as well as on facebook. You can see to the graphic here just to the right of my written blog here over by the dates of my other blogs. The graphic says,

"Buy Original. Support the Artist."

It is an ongoing campaign in the doll craft community to support the artists behind the creations. Buy original products, because they have love, work and effort behind them. Please add this stamp to your picture if you are an artist/artisan or if you love creativity and support our work. Spread it!

I know this will not stop people from selling or purchasing copies of other's creations as there are many more people that want these specific styles and not enough can be produced by the single original artisan; but it is just that there are so many possibilities when creating outfits, sweaters, coats and caps for our blythes and other dolls so that it is easy to find and create ones own style and no need to copy other's work and especially not sell blatent copies unless referenced and/or seeking permission.

On another note, I am making one of those rectangular hats with the tassels found at knitty.com not for my neo blythes, but rather for my middie blythes (they are not for sale and they will be different, but not just in size for I am using a different type of material which will result in a different looking hat). I am knitting this first hat out of a very strange silk yarn that is rough in texture and like string not the smoother soft silk one usually thinks about...! Here are a few photos of these pieced together scraps of silk being used in my knitting.

It will be interesting to see what the hat ends up looking like in the long run. I hope it will be bright, colourful with interesting texture yet also cute on the middies.

February Calendar page for you!

It must be February. So many of the people in the blythe community do nice little things like this and then share it with everyone.

Oh and another great piece of news has been released related to calendars, I will be hosting GBaby's custom girl in June! I am so excited. There are three of us doing so where I live so she should make it to BlytheCon 2011. Also I may not personally have to ship her since I fall right between the two others who will be hosting her in the same town! Hopefully I can just drop her off at her next destination.

All for now just thought I would post this short little blurb. Oh and GBaby has a blog on this site you can find it at: http://gbabycustoms.blogspot.com/

Not Wanting to Hurry Time, But How I Want Spring and The Arrival Though Not of Spring

Well today is another dreary wintery day here! While no snow this year & no rain today yet, I know I should count my blessings; but I sure would like spring to truly be here. The other day I was going to take a photo of the first crocus I saw bursting up through the ground while my dog and I were out for a walk when what should I see but a series of bird houses up in the trim on the porch of a house. Now I suppose these were not purely decorative, but also the solution to keeping birds from roosting in the trim;

the result though brings a smile to one's face at least mine! I don't think I ever did take a photo of the crocus, lol! These little miniature houses just made my heart sing!

You might think I was into birdhouses when you see that I have also taken photos of some bird houses at a shopping center, but they were taken one fine spring day awhile ago
I love how these little houses are both a part of my great big world and yet count I think as part of my tiny world too!

On the very day and probably at the very same time I was taking the walk with my dog, my postman (and yes he is a man) was trying to deliver a package at my house. I had hoped the package was coming on this very day (now two days ago) and I waited and waited and waited until I could wait no longer both to arrive at an appointment and take the above walk with my dog who needed it desperately, poor thing.
Well anyway sure enough when I arrived home there was the little orange card saying a package had arrived buried under heaps of junk mail in the hall. With other things to do I knew it would be a few days before I got the package...with long awaited patience, I was ever so glad to open the package today and who arrived?
Yes my new, but old blythe doll Kozy Kape, one of the early bl neo takaras from around 2001-2002; not that old granted, but a doll that is highly coveted in the blythe world. Blythe dolls became quite popular after Gina Garan took their photos in 2000. The takara dolls are not the only blythe dolls as the original kenner girls made by hasbro came out in 1972 and they not only scared the parents, they scared many children too and so not many sold.

These kenner girls are highly coveted too, but I already had 4 kenner girls so it was Kozy I coveted this time.

Now you would think I had enough dolls and I do; but there is one more blythe doll that I would like and it is a brand new girl! You can find her at the link below and her name is Rasberry Sorbet and you can find her photo at blythe news under January 27th, 2011. http://www.blythedoll.com/eng/news

Hmm I actually told a fib, I think I should have said there are two more blythe dolls that I would like as not only would I like the new release called Rasberry Sorbet; but I would also like a girl that came out in 2007 and her name is Hello Harvest. Now I don't actually have a photo of Hello Harvest, but you can find information and a photo of her at blythe news if you look up 'what is blythe' and 2007 with her name under blythe history. Hope this helps if you're curious? or you could go to flickr a photo site and look up Blythe - Hello Harvest and I know you can find a photo there (you can of course always google the name).

All for now the dolls are calling me.
